Refresh for latest…
The British Independent Film Awards are taking place tonight at London’s Old Billingsgate Market in the City. Scottish director David Mackenzie’s prison drama Starred Up has the most nominations with eight including Film,
Director, Actor and Screenplay. Tribeca Film recently acquired the pic that stars Jack O’Connell. Clio Barnard’s Cannes Directors’ Fortnight title, The Selfish Giant, has seven nods, and three films picked up five each: James McAvoy-starrer Filth; the UK’s Foreign Language Oscar entry, Metro Manila; and Roger Michell’s Le Week-End. The Best Film category includes all of the above save for Filth and along with Stephen Frears’ Philomena which has four nods. Other nominees include Jonathan Glazer’s Under The Skin with Scarlett Johansson; Tom Hardy man-in-crisis-in-a-car movie, Locke; and Ralph Fiennes’ The Invisible Woman.
