COMMENT | The cast list for the remaining 'Avatar' movies has not been confirmed yet, but we have already had it confirmed from the production team, and in some cases the horse's mouth, that several of the original members of the 'Avatar' cast are to return for the sequels. Numerous key players from the first film have already signed up to and been confirmed to be part of the sequels, which means we will definitely see Zoe Saldana (Neytiri), Sigourney Weaver (Grace Augustine), Sam Worthington (Jake Sulley) and Stephen Lang (Miles Quaritch) in all three of the remaining movies.
But even at this late stage, with the scripts apparently nearly complete, much of the casting having been done, the date and location of filming pretty much confirmed, and even a projected release date for the movies, one of the biggest stars from the first movie has still not been confirmed to be part of the sequels.
Michelle Rodriguez's participation in the sequels has still not be officially mentioned, at least not publicly, despite the fact that the Texan born actress has become a hugely bankable mainstream action movie star since her appearance in the original 'Avatar'. With starring roles in the 'Fast and Furious' movies, as well as roles in films such as 'Machete Kills' and 'Battle: Los Angeles' the 35 year-old has marked herself out as an actress who can play tough female roles extremely plausibly.
But James Cameron this week made comments which suggest that Rodriguez is highly likely to be offered a role in the remaining 'Avatar' movies. Cameron stated explicitly that the intention for the 'Avatar' sequels is to get as many of the original cast involved as possible. With only really Giovani Ribisi and Rodriguez's participation of the major performers from the first movie yet to be confirmed, this would suggest that they could both yet be involved.
Unlike some of the other characters that need to be written back into the storyline after suffering a rather grisly end by the culmination of the first movie, it was not confirmed that Rodriguez's helicopter pilot character was killed. It was certainly implied that this was the case, but her fate was not made 100% clear. This would leave Cameron open to bring her back quite easily, and of course Ribisi's character Parker Selfridge did not come a cropper at all.
