Pixar have confirmed that their latest short film 'Party Central' will premiere ahead of 'Muppets Most Wanted' later this year.
This decision means that 'Party Central' will be the only film from the animation company to hit the big screen in 2014 after Pixar were forced to delay 'The Good Dinosaur' until November 2015.
'Party Central' is a spinoff of 'Monsters University,' and the six-minute short revolves around Oozma Kappa's attempts to throw a huge frat party. Unfortunately though they discover that no one is going to show up, but they soon get some assistance from some extra inter-dimensional doors that they use to improve their soiree.
Discussing the short with Entertainment Weekly, the film's writer-director Kelsey Mann, who also worked as a story supervisor on 'Monsters University,' remarked, "When you first meet the Oozma Kappas, they go to their fraternity house and the first thing they say is, 'Welcome to party central! We haven't thrown a party yet, but when we do we'll be ready.'"
He continued, "I kept telling Dan [Scanlon], 'I really want to see their party. We have to do it in the credits or something.' Then when the idea of doing a short came up, we were like, 'That could be the party!' "
Mann confirmed that 'Party Central,' which premiered at last year's D23 Expo, took around eight months to complete, and after briefly considering including it as a bonus feature on the film's DVD, Pixar concluded that audiences should view it on the big screen instead.
Mann couldn't be more thrilled with this decision, admitting, "It fits. 'Party Central' is a big, epic party, so the bigger the screen and the louder the speakers, the better it is."
Pixar's short films are almost as illustrious as their feature presentations, and they have previously received 11 Academy Award nominations for the Best Animated Short Film gong, winning the award on three separate occasions.
You can see Party Central ahead of Muppets Most Wanted when it is released on March 21, 2014.
